Brief
To evolve the Real Life Weddings Bookazine into a more elevated, editorially-led publication, improving both the visual storytelling and the value delivered to each client.
When I took over, the existing layout lacked consistency and did not fully showcase the individuality of each wedding. The brief was to create a new approach to client features that felt more immersive, more refined and more aligned with a luxury editorial standard. Each wedding needed to feel like its own story, rather than part of a repeated template.
At the same time, the publication needed to balance inspiration with structure, ensuring readers could easily follow each story while still feeling emotionally connected to the couple, the setting and the experience.
Solution
I introduced a completely new layout approach for every client spread, moving away from a rigid format and instead designing each feature around the couple’s story and the visual strength of their wedding.
Each wedding was treated as a standalone editorial piece, with a strong opening image, a clear sense of place, and a narrative that felt personal and immersive. As seen in this example, the layout allows the imagery to lead, supported by considered typography and spacing that gives the story room to breathe .
I refined the editorial structure to balance storytelling, practical insight and visual flow. This included weaving the couple’s narrative with key details such as location, styling choices and supplier credits, ensuring the feature was both inspirational and informative.
The introduction of a more polished and structured editorial layout elevated the overall feel of the publication. Stronger image hierarchy, clearer typography and more intentional use of space allowed each wedding to feel more immersive and easier to follow.
I also ensured each feature maintained a consistent tone of voice, while still allowing each couple’s personality and story to come through. This created cohesion across the publication without losing the individuality of each wedding.
The result was a more refined and immersive reading experience, where each wedding feels distinct, aspirational and emotionally engaging. It also provided greater value to clients, as their weddings were presented as fully realised editorial stories rather than simple listings.
